Timothy,

I’m a HUGE fan of your writings, but you come across as somewhat of an old fogie in this one, hahaha.

The amount of value that can be derived from the internet is EXTRAORDINARY. That some people are opting to [insert mindless web activity here] instead is a failing on them, not the medium.

Sure, social media platforms are designed to be addicting. There are certainly problems with the internet. But that doesn’t downplay the fact it has allowed scores of people to (A) quit jobs they hated to make a living making content/selling products, (B) create enriching, fulfilling relationships with people they otherwise would have never met, and (C) have their worthwhile thoughts/insights reach people from all corners of the globe…I could go on and on.

I just can’t agree with your belief that the internet is a net negative for humanity.

Circumstances are definitely nightmarish and dystopic here in the US, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t those among us who know how to rise above the insanity.
